Some additional information on the sneaky additions to the bill. Anyone got any ideas why the gov't is data mining all these transactions?

Senate Housing Bill Requires eBay, Amazon, Google, and All Credit Card Companies to Report Transactions to the Government
Broad, invasive provision touches nearly every aspect of American commerce.

    Washington, D.C. -

Update: Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Charles Grassley is pushing the bill.

Hidden deep in Senator Christopher Dodd's 630-page Senate housing legislation is a sweeping provision that affects the privacy and operation of nearly all of America's small businesses. The provision, which was added by the bill's managers without debate this week, would require the nation's payment systems to track, aggregate, and report information on nearly every electronic transaction to the federal government.
Call Congress and Tell Them to Oppose The eBay Reporting Provision in the Housing Bill: 1-866-928-3035
FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey commented: "This is a provision with astonishing reach, and it was slipped into the bill just this week. Not only does it affect nearly every credit card transaction in America, such as Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express, but the bill specifically targets payment systems like eBay's PayPal, Amazon, and Google Checkout that are used by many small online businesses. The privacy implications for America's small businesses are breathtaking."

"Privacy groups like the Center for Democracy and Technology and small business organizations like the NFIB sharply criticized this idea when it first appeared earlier this year. What is the federal government's purpose with this kind of detailed data? How will this database be secured, and who will have access? Many small proprietors use their Social Security number as their tax ID. How will their privacy be protected? What compliance costs will this impose on businesses? Why is Sen. Chris Dodd putting this provision in a housing bailout bill? The bill also includes the creation of a new national fingerprint registry for mortgage brokers.

"At a time when concerns about both identity theft and government spying are paramount, Congress wants to create a new honey pot of private data that includes Social Security numbers. This bill reduces privacy across America's payment processing systems and treats every American small business or eBay power seller like a criminal on parole by requiring an unprecedented level of reporting to the federal government. This outrageous idea is another reason to delay the housing bailout legislation so that Senators and the public at large have time to examine its full implications."

    From the Senate Bill Summary:

Payment Card and Third Party Network Information Reporting. The proposal requires information reporting on payment card and third party network transactions. Payment settlement entities, including merchant acquiring banks and third party settlement organizations, or third party payment facilitators acting on their behalf, will be required to report the annual gross amount of reportable transactions to the IRS and to the participating payee. Reportable transactions include any payment card transaction and any third party network transaction. Participating payees include persons who accept a payment card as payment and third party networks who accept payment from a third party settlement organization in settlement of transactions. A payment card means any card issued pursuant to an agreement or arrangement which provides for standards and mechanisms for settling the transactions. Use of an account number or other indicia associated with a payment card will be treated in the same manner as a payment card. A de minimis exception for transactions of $10,000 or less and 200 transactions or less applies to payments by third party settlement organizations. The proposal applies to returns for calendar years beginning after December 31, 2010. Back-up withholding provisions apply to amounts paid after December 31, 2011. This proposal is estimated to raise $9.802 billion over ten years.

Here is United States Governments New Motto:
    Here we grow again!

According to the republicans the best way for the country to prosper is to pay the workers nothing, this way the businesses can make even more crappy jobs. This way we can 0% unemployment and as long as everyone is working why then we must be rich and prosperous. The quality of pay or income doesn't matter one bit according to the republicans. If everyone is working 10 hours a week then we have 0% uneployment then the economy is booming right? My point is, a crappy job isn't worth having. We can have all the businesses in the world in this country but if the people making those businesses the billions can't afford anything more than a slave life, then those businesses aren't worth a roll of toilet paper. If people can't share in the wealth by the goodness of the greedy rich business owners which will in good conscious share it, then the only other way is to take it.

And if the greedy business owners want to pay crap wages, then I don't want to hear you complaining when the government wants to raise your taxes because your the only ones that will be left that will have the means to pay them. If you want to rule the world and not share in the prosperity with those workers who actually make you the millions, then stop bitching when the government TAKES the money from you, someone has to pay for the government services your crappy paid workers can't afford to pay for because they are getting crappy wages, which means they have to suck off the government taxpayer services which in turns leave only you being able to afford to pay taxes. And if the meager peons that make the corporations the billions aren't paid enough to help pay the tax load, then the only ones left to pay it is you. So, either way your gonna pay. Doesn't it make much more sense to share the wealth rather than look like a greedy sob and have it taken? Lets face it, the government is going to need the money or it goes kaput, and everything you've worked for might just go with it, use your heads.

I know republicans have been brainwashed into treating people as slaves and listening to a little too much Limbough.
As Limbough said a month or two ago, the Rich don't care about people, they can hire you for $10 an hour to do their dirty work and if you won't do it someone else will, just like he said when he worked at the baseball orginazation. Thats how these business owners are, they are out to make a buck and they don't really care about if their workers can't afford to live. Why should they, they are in business to make money.

So, this is a good way to run a business? I say when you share the wealth with the producers of the wealth you make even more wealth, thats how Bill Gates used to do it, but now he wants to pay people less and less and bring in foriegn workers. While he's doing this other companies are getting the best workers by paying them more and actually respecting them as people that are helping create the billions, not as a used pile of crap that is a burden on the company, like so many US companies do. Imagine that, treating the people making you the billions like a burden. Sounds about par for these days doesn't it?

This is why Bill Gates has been seen more in the halls of government more and more lately. He wants to use his hundred billion dollar monopoly money to pass laws that allow him to keep his status and block the competetion from coming up, the same thing any business thats too big does, they use their money and influence to gain favor and remain viable, instead of using the products and cutting edge business ideas to remain in the forfront, they use the laws and public officials to do the dirty work.
Unless we get those criminals & make them pay for what they have done to our country and the lawlessness they have sponsored, we are just another Mexico ourselves!

Great points made Chex. I always here Republicans, fiscal conservatives, libertarians etc. talk about low unemplyment and the GDP. As if that were EVERYTHING. Your right, Rush does it ALL of the time. Well, I'm pretty sure communist countries had full employment. American slaves were fully employed, weren't they? Your right, its the QUALITY of jobs, not the quantity. They are destroying our quality jobs with outsourcing, and replacing them with crap jobs. Free trade advocates are always saying that outsourcing CREATES jobs....well, it does, sh*tty jobs. as if corporate America wants well paying jobs here??? If they did, why the hell would they outsource in the first place? They reinvest to create low paying jobs. Quality paying jobs is never the objective. If Rush believes in this "They will just get rid of you, and replace you with someone cheaper" philosophy, I have to question his legitimacy when it comes to the immigration debate.
Serve Bush with his letter of resignation.

    See you at the signing!!

So where do we get the stuff since all our factores and farms are now owned by foreigners ?

Even the burger joints are losing business now , kids all over the nation are going through 'happy meal' withdrawals . Star bucks is closing and the caffein addicts in withdrawal are on the roads so drive defenseivly.

yet people are still giving us the finger for not driving 80mph in a 50 mph zone ,when gas is $100 a tank .
