26 Shootings, 9 Dead in Baltimore Holiday Weekend Violence

BALTIMORE —
More than 20 shootings happened in Baltimore over the Memorial Day weekend, leaving nine people dead, Baltimore police say.


Seven shootings were reported Saturday and six were reported Friday night. The most recent shootings happened overnight Sunday.


Police reported eight shootings overnight, two of which were fatal — bringing the tally for the holiday weekend in Baltimore to 26 shootings and 9 people killed.


Police say one man died after a shooting around 11 p.m. Friday in the unit block of Benkert Ave.


Just before midnight, police were called to the 1900 block of Wilhelm St. where they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and a third man with a neck wound. One of the men with a head wound died. The two others are in critical condition.


Another man was found dead in the 100 block of S. Augusta Ave. around 9:00 a.m. Saturday.


Police also reported the shooting deaths Saturday of a woman in the 2000 block of Hollins St. and a man in the 2800 block of St Lo Dr.


On Sunday afternoon, a man was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen in the 900 block of Ducatel Street. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died, CBS Baltimore reports.


Overnight, police reported five additional shootings. An adult male and a 17-year-old male were shot in the 5300 block of St. Georges Avenue. Police say the adult male was shot in the chest and died.


An adult male was shot in the back of the head and killed in another overnight shooting in the 800 block of W. Fayette Street.


Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said Saturday the city’s violent criminals “are acting with impunity right now.”
