Sarah Palin apparently has a lead foot.

The former Alaska governor was caught speeding last week by the Wasilla Police Department. She got slapped with a $144 fine, plus $10 surcharge, according to court documents found via Alaska’s CourtView system.

TMZ
was first to report the news about Palin, who told the gossip website that “I wasn’t speeding, I was qualifying.” She also blamed her offense partly to the influence of Sammy Hagar’s I Can’t Drive 55 on the radio.

Palin was driving her Toyota Tundra when she got pulled over July 16 in the town where she was once mayor. She was cited for going 10 to 19 mph over the posted speed limit. Palin has 30 days to respond to the citation, which notes the surcharge is for “police training.”

The person who answered the phone at the Wasilla Police Department had no comment when we called, but helpfully directed us to the documents.
