Sen. Ben Nelson Now Backs Public Option 'Trigger'

Sen. Ben Nelson (NE) is a fiscally conservative Democrat known for his independence. When he stated he would not support a "public healthcare option" for financial reasons, liberal organizations flooded Nebraska with healthcare commercials pushing a public option over the August recess. Nelson struck back saying Nebraskans were "being terrorized" about healthcare. After Obama's address to the nation, he called the "Blue Dog Senators" who opposed the public option to the White House for a private meeting. So this is a marked change in Nelson's position.

    Nelson backs public option 'trigger'

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., says he could support a health insurance public option if a "trigger" on its use were included.

Nelson, considered a moderate Democrat whose support could be vital in securing passage of healthcare reforms in the Senate, told CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday that establishing a government-run alternative to private health plans could be acceptable if it were triggered only in certain situations where there is little market competition.

"If, somehow, the private market doesn't respond the way that it's supposed to (to other aspects of health care reform), then it would trigger a public option or a government-run option," Nelson said, "but only as a fail-safe, backstop to the process."

Fellow Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, a backer of the public option, told CNN she may be able to support Nelson's "trigger," but said, "I'd want to see what those triggers are, what the benchmarks are. Certainly it's worth looking at. But we have to push competition. We have to do a better job of putting some rules on the insurance companies."

Thought I would pass this along if it enters the picture anywhere.

Joe is right whether he did it properly or not---he's right.

The Supreme Court has previusly ruled that if any program is
offered to the public by the government then there cannot be any
descrimination thereby the illegal immigrants would have to be covered
---so the illegal immigrants would have to be included in any "health care plan".
This was discussed in detail by Judge Napolitano on Fox News this afternoon on the
    Glen Beck Show.

Obama surely knows this. Why would the White House be so quick to accept
Joe Wilson's apology -- they want this to go away fast before this fact of the
Supremne Court ruling is spread to the American people. This ruling is now
"Constitutional Law" but when has Obama and his goons apid any attention to
    The Constitutuon---huh!

    WAY TO GO JOE!

See also, "Legal Immigrants Weigh Down Obamacare" by Virgil Goode.
    http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-170710.html

Goode points out that, because of Birthright Citizenship, having one legal immigrant in a family could qualify an entire family for the public health insurance option. He also addresses the problem of Chain Migration and the excessive costs of legal immigration on the healthcare system:

"Writing at the immigration website VDARE.com, former Hudson Institute economist Ed Rubenstein estimates that legal immigrants and their children will be responsible for 78% of all increased healthcare costs by 2050 totaling 1.2 trillion dollars."
