YUMA --Police arrested a San Luis, Mexico man early Thursday morning after finding 645 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle he was driving.
Yuma Police Department spokesperson, Sgt. Brian Scanlan, said officers noticed several packages in plain sight within the vehicle. A police drug-detecting dog then alerted to the presence of illicit substances in or around the vehicle.
Scanlan said the 645 pounds of marijuana packaged for distribution or sale had a street value estimated at over $500,000.
21-year-old Eleazar Acosta was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center.
He now faces charges of possession and transportation of marijuana for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia, Scanlan said.
Yuma police are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact Det. Drabent at the Yuma Police Department at 928-373-4782.
