Freshman GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is reportedly weighing a run for the presidency.

National Review
cites friends and confidants who say developments are still in the early stages, but are nonetheless real.

The Princeton and Harvard Law-educated Mr. Cruz, 42, has racked up headlines during his short time in the U.S. Senate for his staunch conservatism — he gave the keynote speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) earlier this year — and opposition to President Obama at virtually every turn.

Mr. Cruz most recently raised eyebrows when he referred to some of his fellow Republican senators as “squishes” for their tenor during the debate over gun control and their purported ire with Mr. Cruz, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Sen. Mike Lee of Utah for the trio’s filibuster threats and staunch opposition to gun legislation.

“Look, there are a lot of people that don’t like to be held accountable,” he said at a meeting in Texas with members of the conservative group FreedomWorks. “But here was their argument: They said, ‘Listen, before you did this, the politics were great. The Dems were the bad guys, the Republicans were the good guys; now we all look like a bunch of squishes.’ Well, there is an alternative. You could just not be a bunch of squishes.”
