Daily prayer, Dear God please help me to study and teach my children to use wisdom in their actions. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, II Timothy 2:15."

As a mother of six children, there is nothing more important to me than my children, their future, and their freedom. Politics is such a hot topic that thus far I have not pursued it as a subject here on this Blog, however the primaries are getting closer and I felt the need to comment. Most folks know I am active politically and that I support Fred Thompson in the ’08 Presidential Election.

If you have been watching in the IndependentMail, you know that Fred Thompson is going to be in town on Wednesday, December 5, 2007. He will be meeting and greeting at Grady’s Sporting Goods starting at 10:30am and then He will be meeting and Greeting at Mama Pens at 1:30 pm.

This is your chance to meet Fred Thompson and decide for yourself if he is your candidate. He is mine! I will be there as a greeter for Fred Thompson at Mama Pens in Anderson starting at Noon. I hope to see you there.

If you are unable to attend Please call me for your Fred ’08 Bumper Sticker, yard sign, or other information. If you want to volunteer to make phone calls or write letters, or offer your support, just give me a call. We will put you to task and thank you for it.

It is not my intention to turn this into a political Blog, just a place for practical parenting tips, and I see politics as a very practical part of parenting. Your children need to know what your beliefs are, religious, social, and fiscal.

Even if you don’t support my candidate, I hope you support one. Teaching our children to vote is one of the best examples of participation in the political process.

The right to vote and have a voice is one of the most basic freedoms we have. As parents we should be sharing with our children the importance of being informed about what our lawmakers are doing nationally and abroad.

The policy set by the people we vote to represent us and future generations is a fundamental necessity in the forming of laws, International Diplomacy, Environmental Standards, Social Conservatism/Liberalism and so on.

As a fiscal conservative myself, I’m going to go to the polls so that my voice can be heard (Fred Thompson in ’08 ) and so should you.

I have voted in every primary and every election since 1988. When my children were born, I took them with me, just like my mom took me with her. I knew from an early age what a privilege we have in this country to have a voice in who represents us in Washington down to the local level.

Politics is not always pretty; sometimes it can be a blood sport. All the more reason to take this right seriously and participate. One of the most fundamental rights in our free country is to vote.

The best way to teach our children the importance of government and the importance of informed voting is to do so our selves by setting the example to learn about the platform on which your candidate stands then vote for the representative that best aligns him or herself with your beliefs.

So, whether you support my candidate (Fred in ’08 ) or not come check him out at Mama Pen’s or at Grady’s sporting goods. You never know, you may decide you like what Fred Thompson has to say, or not.

One thing is for sure, unless you do the research you will never know and unless you show up at the Polls in November, you will not be heard.

Do it for your children and our future generations, make an informed decision, and choose a candidate and VOTE in November.

I wanted to be sure anyone reading this article knows that the time listed for Mama Pens was a typo. I will be at Mama Pens at 11:00 am and Fred Thompson will arrive at 12 Noon. I hope to see you there!
