Senators reject photo ID for health care benefits

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senators working on a health overhaul have rejected a Republican move to require photo identification for federal health benefits.

Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa said his amendment would have helped cut fraud in health care programs for low-income people. It would have required applicants to present a government-issued ID when applying for Medicaid or the children's health care program.

But Democrats said unscrupulous medical providers — not beneficiaries — are usually the ones responsible for fraud. They said current ID requirements for beneficiaries are strong enough. The vote was 13-10, against the amendment.

I heard about this on Rush's radio show earlier today. Typical Dem's don't want to do anything that will keep Federal law breakers i.e. illegal aliens from getting care!

May I suggest we deport Congress and bring in some workers on visas that have proven they have common sense and intelligence?
The Dems need to be defeated by a wide, wide margin!

They WANT illegal aliens to have health care PAID FOR BY TAXPAYERS. There is absoutely no excuse for not passing the amendment.

I find it ironic that my husband's company demanded he provide them with certified copies of our marriage certificate and our kids birth certificates to prove we were eligible (aka married to him and they are his kids) or they would drop our coverage.

Apparently employees were abusing the privilege and claiming extra kids (not their own) or if unmarried, were claiming to be married.

Americans are forced to prove who they are, but illegal aliens are not?!?!?! WTH is wrong with this picture?
