Sex-addicted ex-bishop gets time served

OTTAWA, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A former Canadian Catholic bishop who is a confessed child pornography addict was spared jail time in Ottawa Wednesday because of time served since his arrest.

Raymond Lahey, 71, received a 15-month sentence by Ontario Court Justice Kent Kirkland, but was granted two-for-one credit for the eight months he's been in jail, the National Post reported.

He also received two years of probation, during which he must consult a probation officer if he leaves the country. He also lost the right to privacy on his personal computer, which the judge said could be seized and searched at any time.

The former head of the Nova Scotia diocese of Antigonish was arrested at the Ottawa airport in 2009 when immigration officials found 588 photos and 63 videos of children involved in sex acts, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Lahey pleaded guilty in May to possession and importing child pornography.

At his initial sentencing hearing in December, Lahey admitted his addiction to pornography and explained he didn't seek help because of his high position in the church.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego police have arrested a Roman Catholic priest on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman.

A police statement says 53-year-old Jose Davila turned himself in to detectives on Sunday. He was booked and released on bail.

Davila is associate pastor at St. Jude's Shrine of the West. Police say the woman, whom Davila has known for several months, claims the priest assaulted her Friday morning while she was visiting his home.

Maria Roberts of the Diocese of San Diego told KGTV-TV (http://bit.ly/xmKmTO ) that the diocese is investigating and also is cooperating with the police investigation.
