    Small businesses offshoring jobs

During one of his televised Town Hall meetings, Obama said words to the effect that he was concentrating on college education, because white collar jobs are more difficult to offshore. An article in Monday's San Francisco Chronicle shows just how nonsensical that is.

The article by staff writer Tom Abate concerns new global hiring halls which are being used by small businesses. That's a crucial development, because over the last 25 years, small businesses have created two-thirds of new jobs in the private sector. The reason small companies use these virual hiring hallis the same as always: firms save money, particularly because they dont' have to pay any benefits.

One of the virtual hiring hall CEO's says that small businesses arebeginning to shift to hiring locally when cultural or linguistic knowledge is important. If that trend continues, it could lessen the damage to unemployed Americans.

I read an article by one businessman who pointed out that outsourcing one aspect of a business, such as a "call center", to lower costs sometimes allowed that business to remain in business, continuing to provide jobs within the United States, also, rather than having to close entirely.
