Spiderman sworn in as deputy

Spider-Man took a break from crime fighting Friday to spend some time with his smallest fans, although he did have to share the limelight with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Spidey fans at Phoenix Children's Hospital got quite a treat.

The superhero passed out comics and collectors cards to some of his littlest admirers.

And he even had time to hang out and play.

But the highlight came when Arpaio made a special visit.

"I want to make you deputy sheriff. Would you like that?" Arpaio asked the superhero.

Spider-Man took an oath to serve and protect the people of Maricopa County, but as it turns out, American's toughest superhero didn't know the name of America's toughest sheriff, calling him Sheriff Bob.

Despite the minor slip-up, Spider-Man and Arpaio joined forced to make it a full day of surprises for some kids who could really use a break.

Each of the children got a free comic, a Spiderman card and of course, a Sheriff Joe Arpaio card.

And they spent the rest of their day creating Spider-Man-inspired crafts.
