Police Search For 'Dangerous' Suspect In Desert Hot Springs Shooting
Victim In Critical, Stable Condition

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif.

Authorities are searching for a suspect wanted in connection to a late-night shooting in Desert Hot Springs on Thursday night.

Desert Hot Springs police released the photo of Saul Gonzalez Espinoza, 37, aka "Chobo," on Friday morning.

The shooting happened at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday near the intersection of Palm Drive and Varner Road, where the victim was found on the ground near a gas station.

The victim is a 31-year-old man and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to Sgt. Dan Bressler.

The investigation continued late into the night, said Desert Hot Springs Police Sgt. Ken Peary. That's when his team identified Espinoza as a possible suspect.

Witnesses told police Espinoza fled the area in a black-over-silver 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with factory alloy rims.

Espinoza should be considered armed and very dangerous.

Peary said if you should see the suspect or the vehicle, do not approach him -- call 911 immediately.
