FLS, don't exaggerate immigration enforcement

I was interested in The Free Lance-Star's use of the word "raid" in the April 29 story titled "ICE Raid in Stafford Stunning to Family."

How does a routine arrest of a criminal alien become a raid? Police arrest criminals at their homes and workplace every day, even in the middle of the night. Are these raids?

Exaggeration is misinformation. One of the reasons for large numbers of Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests at the same time in an area is the lack of resources for federal law-enforcement officers to spread several arrests out over a long period of time.

As for Edras Osorto, even his wife admits he violated the law; he has been deported previously, returned to the U.S. after being told not to come back for 10 years, and he has a criminal record.

The ICE agents did a fantastic job! Why aren't we recognizing the work they are doing?

Edras Osorto and Michele Veldran-Osorto, as well as others in their situation, need to remember one thing: If you steal a candy bar and later tell the store clerk what you did, you don't get a free candy bar; you still have to pay for it.

While they did the right thing in taking steps toward following this country's immigration laws, for her to think coming clean to the system somehow makes her husband's legal status possible, or that they are exempt from consequences, is laughable.
