Suspicious devices found outside San Diego Union-Tribune

SAN DIEGO – A suspicious device found near the San Diego Union-Tribune building in downtown San Diego prompted a police investigation Wednesday morning.

The newspaper’s headquarters are located at 600 B Street and employees were evacuated around 8:30 a.m. Senator Kamala Harris has an office in the same building.

Reporter Kate Morrissey tweeted a picture of police tape and five boxes seen outside the building.

San Diego police alerted other people in the area to shelter in place.
The investigation follows a series of other reports of suspicious devices being sent to President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Time Warner Center.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Democrat of Florida, was the Democratic National Committee Chair from 2011 to 2016.
The Sunrise, Florida, office of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been evacuated after a suspicious package was found mailed there this morning, according to Officer Chris Piper, a spokesman for the police department.
The area is secured and the bomb squad is on site, Piper said.
It’s not clear if the package contains a device similar to others detected around the country Wednesday.

White powder, has not been tested, could be baby powder.

Trump weighs in on bomb scare by retweeting Pence

President Trump on Wednesday belatedly weighed in on the bombs mailed to the Clintons, Obamas and CNN — retweeting an earlier post from Vice President Mike Pence.

“I agree wholeheartedly!” the commander-in-chief tweeted at 12:04 p.m., roughly five hours after the first reports about the bombs went public.

Pence had tweeted at 11:14 a.m. condemning the acts.

“We condemn the attempted attacks against fmr Pres Obama, the Clintons, @CNN & others. These cowardly actions are despicable & have no place in this Country. Grateful for swift response of @SecretService, @FBI & local law enforcement. Those responsible will be brought to justice,” the veep wrote.

While the suspect’s or suspects’ motives remained unclear, the recipients are frequent targets of Trump’s attacks at his MAGA rallies.

Crowds chant “Lock her up” at the mention of Hillary Clinton, chant “CNN sucks” when the president mocks the network, and reliably jeer mention of Obama and his policies.
