Children's wear quality raised public concern in China
Post date : 08/06/2006

The findings of a recent survey on children's clothing conducted in nine major Chinese cities has raised public concerns, as around 40% among 74 samples of children's wear have not met national standards.

According to the report of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the unqualified samples were found to have exceeding toxic substances such as formaldehydes, and wrong labeling. Some children's wear companies have already announced recalled for concerned products.

The association representing children's wear manufacturers is asking its members to pay attention to the quality of clothing, which can affect children's health.

Statistics show that China produces around 4.6 billion pieces of children's garment each year, of which 2.1 billion pieces are sold in the domestic market. Its expenditure on children's clothing accounts for 7% of the national garment consumption and 3% of global children's wear consumption.
