China's Xiamen Airlines has finalized an order for six Boeing 787 Dreamliners valued at $1.27 billion at list prices, a deal that will allow it to begin long-haul service to the U.S. and Europe next year.

China Southern Airlines Co. Ltd. had said in May 2011 that it had signed a letter of agreement to buy the six planes, but the deal was delayed by Chinese government approval, Reuters reports.

The first jet is to be delivered July 25, 2014, a Xiamen spokeswoman told the news agency. The airline is one of only a handful of all-Boeing carriers, according to Reuters.

Chicago-based Boeing Co.'s Defense, Space and Security unit is based in Hazelwood.
