Photo: Nueces County Jail5 Jul 20183A woman in Corpus Christi, Texas, is in jail after police say she sold her seven-year-old son to two men. She was also allegedly in the process of selling two other children when police intervened.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers executed a search warrant after finding a seven-year-old boy who they say was sold by his mother to two men. Investigators raided the home of 29-year-old Esmeralda Garza on June 29 and took the mother of at least three children into custody, KRIS NBC6 reported.

Further investigation revealed the woman was in the process of selling two other children — a two-year-old girl and a three-year-old girl.

Jail records obtained by the local NBC affiliate revealed the boy was sold to two men. The details of the transaction were not reported.

Investigators reported that a man and a woman were also arrested as a result of a drug investigation. Additional charges are expected to be filed, officials said.

Investigators are still looking into the woman and said there could be additional charges filed against her as well.
Police took all three people to the Nueces County jail. The mother is being held under a $100,000 bond. She is charged with the sale or purchase of a child, a Class 3 felony.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Texas mother who isaccused of selling her children wanted to settle a drug money debt, according to an arrest report.

Texas Department of Public Safety special agents on June 29 executed a search warrant at a home in Nueces County when they found a 7-year-old boy.

A woman told investigators she bought the boy from Esmeralda Garza for $2,500.

When investigators asked Garza about her child, she told them her son was with the woman who bought him.

"Garza stated that she and her boyfriend owe drug money and gave her child to (the woman) who pay $500 cash and clear the owe debt and and extra $700 when the 'custody paperwork' was signed," the report states.

DPS Sgt. Nathan Brandley said the Corpus Christi woman was "in the process" of selling her two daughters, ages 2 and 3.

The exact address where the warrant was executed was redacted by police.

Garza, 29, was arrested for selling a child which is a third degree felony. She was booked into Nueces County Jail with her bail set at $100,000.

An unidentified man and woman were also arrested, a news release states.

Brandley said the incident is still under investigation.

The grandmother and uncle of a young boy allegedly sold by his mother are shocked and say they thought the child was safe in his mom's care.

Esmeralda Garza is charged with selling or purchasing a child, a third degree felony.

CORPUS CHRISTI -Some family members of a little boy that was allegedly sold by his mother say they are stunned, and they thought the child was safe in his mothers care.
"Heartbroken, saddened, overwhelmed. We assumed he was okay with her," Sandra Guerrero, the grandmother of the child, told KRIS 6 News in an exclusive interview.

"She always said he was okay when we'd call and ask," the boy's uncle Tony Guerrero added.

Esmeralda Garza, 29, is accused of selling her 7-year-old son. Investigators say there are also two little girls, ages 2 and 3, that were in the process of being sold.

the family of that little boy is very distraught... and tell us they had no idea... he was at risk for something like this.

The boy was found by DPS special agents during a drug raid in Corpus Christi last Friday.

"They had asked his name, asked him who was his parents. He says, none of these people here are my parents," Tony Guerrero said.

DPS arrested the boy's mother. Garza is charged with sale or purchase of a child, a third degree felony. She is in custody at the Nueces County Jail with bond set at $100,000.

Further DPS investigation revealed Garza was also attempting to sell the two toddler girls. Tony Guerrero says those girls were Garza's children, with a different father than the father of the young boy.

"Wow. Just the type of stuff that you see in movies. And it really happens. For it to be happening here in Corpus Christi is what's the scary thing," Tony Guerrero said.

The little boy's paternal grandmother and uncle are bewildered.

"A seven year old kid, you're going to sell a seven year old kid? Or buy one, you're going to buy one?" Tony Guerrero said.

The family says that the boy has been in Child Protective Services since Friday.

"They're safe right now," Tony Guerrero said.

The family eagerly waits to be reunited with the young boy.

"We're saddened by the whole ordeal, but as soon as we get my grandson home, everything will be okay. We intend to take care of him the best that we know how," Sandra Guerrero said.
They also intend to seek justice.

"So this won't happen to any other child out there," Sandra Guerrero said.

The District Attorney's Office tells KRIS 6 News there is evidence Garza sold the child with for the purpose of trafficking or to perform sexual activities, her charges could be upgraded.

A man and woman were also arrested during the drug raid last Friday.

DPS is still investigating this case.
