Bilingual scholarships available in School of Social Work

The UT Arlington School of Social Work will be able to tap into a $1 million bilingual scholarship program that the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health has introduced. The money will be offered to Spanish-speaking students at accredited graduate social work programs in Texas during the next three years. The new statewide program is the first of its kind in Texas and possibly in the United States. Scholarship recipients must be fluent in Spanish and English and commit to work in Texas after graduation providing mental health services for a period equal to the timeframe of the scholarship. For the 2008-09 school year, the foundation is offering up to $22,000 in scholarship funds at each of the 11 Texas graduate social work programs that are accredited or in candidacy for accreditation by the National Council on Social Work Education. The schools must use the scholarship funds to cover full tuition and fees for recipients. Funds awarded by the foundation each year could vary, depending on the number of students receiving the scholarships at each graduate school. Interested applicants should contact the schools of their choice directly for information about the scholarship program. The foundation will announce the 2008 scholarship recipients in August. See this link for more information about the scholarships and the foundation.
