    Holidaze

    Love, love, love this idea!

Wrap up twenty-five children's books and put them under the tree with a special blanket next to them. Before bed each evening, your kids choose one book to open and read together...until Christmas. Love it!

How To Make A Crochet Rug With Lights - Wonderful project to brighten up the holiday season (if you start now, it could be done in time)

Crochet rug with a rope of light

I love the cozy feeling the light from a string of lights makes. So why not use them all year round? In Thailand for example, you can see them almost everywhere 365 days a year.
I am a person who does not like the dark a all and I feel sorry for little kids who are afraid of the dark. So I wanted to make a rug to make them feel safe and secure. A rug with a calming light that does not disturb their sleep.
If you don’t have any children the rug is just as perfect as a night light in the bathroom or in a dark hallway to welcome your teenagers home after a late night out…
I bought a light rope with LED lights (6 meters ) and 2 huge balls of Hooked Zpagetti. The yarn is made from offcuts of new collection fabric industry and the crochet hook is 12 mm. The rug is 70 cm in diameter.
I crocheted the entire rug with single crochets. I made a magic circle of 4 sc and crochet 8 sc around it. To get a nice effect I crocheted every other row around the rope and every other without. I only increased stitches on the rows crocheted around the rope. That is because the yarn varies in thickness and I did not want the rope to be too visible. I made the increases on a feeling but I decided in the beginning of the lap how often they should be done so that my work became symmetrical. The last lap had 120 stitches.
When the whole rope was covered, I finished the rug off with a nice border. My intention was to make it look like a flower.
    Row 1: * 1 sc, ch 5 skip 3 sts * and finish with 1 sl.
    Row 2: 5 sc in each ch-loop
Row 3: Sl st to top of first arch. * 5 ch, 1 sl st in 3 sc in next loop *
    Row 4: 1 sc, 4 dc, 1 sc in each ch-loop
    Good Luck!

…and if the translation sucks, please let me know!
