These Four Sheriffs Are Taking a Bold Stand Against Gun Control: ‘An Unarmed Public Is a Tyrant’s Playground’

Four sheriffs from across the country joined Glenn Beck on TheBlaze TV Wednesday to discuss the current push for more gun control legislation in the United States. Beck called them the “bravest sheriffs in all of America” for standing up for the Second Amendment and refusing to even consider disarming Americans, even under pressure.

“You have a right to own the firearms of your choice,” Beck said. “That right shall not be infringed. It’s not about hunting, it’s not about target practice, it’s not even about rape or home defense. It is about an armed public being necessary to keep people free. An unarmed public is a tyrant’s playground.”

Beck argued it is important to become educated but also to know who is on the side of the American people when it comes to the Second Amendment. He also encouraged viewers to contact their county sheriff to find out where he or she stands on the Second Amendment.

Joining Beck were Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who garnered national attention for asking residents to arm themselves and get firearms training in case they ever found themselves in a dangerous situation in which the police may not arrive in time. Also in Beck’s Dallas studio were Sheriff Glenn Palmer of Grant County, Oregon, Sheriff Steve Cox of Livingston County, Missouri and Sheriff Tim Mueller from Linn County, Oregon.

The four sheriffs represent 484 other sheriffs who have banded together and vowed to keep the oath they took to uphold the U.S. Constitution.

“What I want to say is, that we as a nation are facing some very difficult time right now,” Sheriff Palmer said. “Our Constitution is very near and dear to me, and I believe it’s under attack. And it’s still a living document, and as police officers we still have to abide by the Constitution.”

Sheriff Clarke said the Second Amendment is about “liberty.”

“The Government doesn’t get to…say how people can and should defend themselves,” he said. “I trust law-abiding citizens, I always have. And government has to learn to start letting go and trusting citizens.”

Sheriff Cox agreed, saying Washington will continue to go after guns and it is important that someone “takes a stand.”

“We have to put our foot down whenever we see something that’s wrong,” Cox added. “Sometimes if you lead, you may stand alone.”

“If not us, than who?” asked Sheriff Mueller.

American sheriffs unite to defy Obama’s gun grabbing laws

Joining a growing number of the nation’s law enforcement officials refusing to partake in unconstitutional actions ordered by the federal government, the sheriff of Linn County, Ore., sent a preemptive letter to Vice President Joe Biden stating he is prepared to refuse to enforce federal regulations “offending the constitutional rights of [Linn County] citizens.”

According to his letter to Biden, Sheriff Tim Mueller will also prohibit his department’s “enforcement of any unconstitutional regulations or orders by federal officers” within his jurisdiction.

Several states have passed laws preventing local law enforcement officers from enforcing unconstitutional laws such as federal gun-control laws including Utah, South Dakota, Tennessee, Idaho and others. Recently Kentucky and Wyoming introduced similar legislation.

The Constitutional County Sheriff’s Association is in the process of publishing a list of the Constitutional County Sheriffs in individuals states who have taken an oath to seriously refuse to enforce laws that violate the Constitution such as gun laws being proposed by President Barack Obama and members of both houses of the U.S. Congress, according to Keith Broaders, the administrator for the CCSA, on Monday.

Every Sheriff is required by law to take an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. This is not just a suggestion, it is the duty of the Sheriff to enforce just laws and refuse to enforce laws that are not, according to Broaders.

For example, Maricopa County Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio told a local radio host the federal government is “going to have problem” if they expect him to confiscate guns from private citizens.

“I took [multiple] oaths of office, and they all say I will defend the Constitution of the United States,” Arpaio told Mike Broomhead of KFYI Radio in Phoenix.

“Now if they’re going to tell the sheriff that he’s going to go around picking up guns from everybody, they’re going to have a problem. I may not enforce that federal law,” Arpaio said according to World Net Daily.

“How can a County Sheriff honor his oath if he needs to obtain permission from the Supreme Court? The ultimate arbiter of the meaning of the Constitution is ‘We the People’ and the duly elected County Sheriff is elected by the people to represent the will of his constituents,” Broader added.

“As a County Sheriff you can serve only one master. Are you going to keep your oath and serve the people, or are you going to be the enforcer of unjust Federal rules, regulations, codes, ordinances and statutes?” said the CCSA founder.

“I want to know if you [as a law enforcement executive] plan to be a servant of the people or an administrative lap dog for the Federal agencies and bureaucrats?”

Is there a difference between the power to do something and the authority to do it?

If an armed intruder bursts into the restaurant where you are dining and begins to order you and others around at gunpoint, can we say that he has the power to command you to obey, but not the rightful authority to do so?

What if the armed intruder is wearing a badge? Does the badge confer authority on him even though he displays it in order to steal?

Could we say that someone wearing an official badge, who uses it to steal the property of others or to intimidate them is actually an “outlaw” – that is – someone acting “outside the law”?

If you were a sheriff or a police officer or a soldier, who had taken an oath to obey the Constitution, including the right of the people to keep and carry guns, would you obey an order of a superior officer who tells you to violate the supreme law of the land?

If you are a State Trooper or a sheriff or a police officer, do you plan to allow Martin O’Malley or Barak O’bama to make you into an outlaw? Will you be true to your oath, or will you be so scared of losing your salary or your pension that you are willing to lose your soul?

The time is fast approaching when you will need to decide from whence your authority comes. The people of Maryland and the people of America are about to discover whether you are a man of your word, who will follow your oath before God, or whether you are a fraud, a disgrace, a failure who would misuse your badge to enslave your own people.
