    Canada Recalls Imported Dole Lettuce

Here we go again. I haven't heard about this recall here yet.

Public warned not to eat Dole lettuce
    CANADIAN PRESS

    OTTAWA

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to eat Dole brand Hearts Delight lettuce salad.

The agency says the ready-to-eat blend of romaine, green leaf and butter lettuce hearts may be contaminated with a strain of E. coli bacteria.

The affected product, produce of USA and likely distributed nationally, is sold in 227-gram packages bearing UPC 0 71430 01038 9, BIUB (best if used by) date 07SE19 and lot code A24924B.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the product.

Food contaminated with this strain of E. coli may not look or smell spoiled but the agency says the bacteria can cause life-threatening illnesses.

Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea; some people can have seizures or strokes and some may need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis, while others may live with permanent kidney damage.

The food inspection agency is working with the importers to have the affected product removed from the marketplace.

For more information, consumers and industry can call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342, or TTY 1-800-465-7735, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday.

Wow! Those wild boars really do get around.

More crap in the crop. They really need to be honest and link this to the food handlers.

I'm going to start growing my own lettuce. Can you grow lettuce indoors?

YOU CAN GROW LETTUCE INDOORS WITH A GROW LIGHT. THE WAY TO DO IT WHEN IT IS READY TO PICK....DONT PULL IT OUT OF THE GROUND. TAKE THE OUTSIDE LEAVES OFF...AS MANY AS YOU NEED. I UNDERSTAND IT GROWS FROM THE CENTER SO IT WILL KEEP GROWING FOR AWHILE.....CANT REMEMBER HOW LONG IT CAN DO THIS. BUT AS AN ALTERNATIVE I DONT USE LEAVES OF ANY TYPE ANYMORE. I ONLY BUY FRUITS AND VEGGIES THAT HAVE SKIN AND ARE EASIER TO WASH WELL. I USE CUCUMBER INSTEAD OF LETTUCE. WORKS GOOD.

Is that a new slogan? It is kind of catchy in a sick way.

I learned that the recall is also in the U.S. now. So much for cheap labor. How much have they lost due to recalls?
