Traffic stop leads to drug charges

ENTERPRISE STAFF REPORT

ASHEBORO – A traffic stop led to the arrest of an out-of*town driver in Asheboro.
On Thursday, the Randolph County Sheriff ’s Office Crim*inal Interdiction Team stopped a vehicle travelling on N.C. 42 south in Asheboro. During the stop, the deputy conducted a search and found 25 kilos of cocaine. The co*caine was located inside both rear passenger doors of the vehicle.
Raul Alfredo Espinosa, 34, of Mc Allen, Texas, was placed under arrest.
Espinosa faces numerous charges, including two counts of trafficking in cocaine, one count possession of Schedule II controlled substance and one count of maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance. Bond was set at $2 million.
The estimated value of the drugs seized is $2.5 million.
The Randolph County Sher*iff ’s Office and the Criminal In*terdiction Team will continue with the ongoing investigation.
