Trial to begin for Chicago boy in fatal beating
CHICAGO (AP) — The trial is set to get underway in Chicago for the first of five suspects accused of beating a Fenger High School honor student to death.
Opening statements are scheduled Tuesday in the trial of a 14-year-old boy accused of attacking 16-year-old Derrion Albert.
Albert was beaten to death in September 2009 after leaving school in an attack that was captured on cellphone video.
The teen isn't being identified because he is a juvenile. Four other suspects have been charged as adults and are awaiting trial.

Chicago teen guilty of murder in violent beating of honors student
05:49 PM
A 15-year-old Chicago boy has been convicted of first-degree murder in the beating death of an honors student that was captured on a cellphone camera and seen worldwide. Four others are awaiting trial.
The teen, who was not identified because he was a juvenile at the time of September 2009 attack, could be imprisoned until he's 21 when sentenced Jan. 18, the Chicago Tribune says.
The youth punched 16-year-old Derrion Albert in the jaw, knocking him face first to the ground during a brawl just blocks from Fenger High School, on the city's South Side. Others then stomped, kicked and beat Albert with boards.
