Trump: US launches strikes on Syria

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump announced on Friday he ordered strikes on the Syrian regime in response to a chemical weapons attack last weekend.

"I ordered the United States armed forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapon capabilities of Syrian dictator of Bashar al-Assad," Trump said from the White House Diplomatic Room.

Trump said the strikes were in coordination with France and the United Kingdom, adding that the purpose of the campaign is to "establish a strong deterrent against the production, spread and use of chemical weapons."

"The combined American, British and French response to these atrocities will integrate all instruments of our national power: military, economic and diplomatic," Trump said.

Trump indicated the strikes would continue until the Syrian regime's use of chemical weapons ends.

"We are prepared to sustain this response until the Syrian regime stops its use of prohibited chemical agents," Trump said.

Mattis won't say what the chemical agent was, thinks there might have been 2, he knows 1 for sure but won't say. Probably the one they're hanging their hat on is chlorine. The French said they found chlorine in blood and urine of the dead. Chlorine gas would not end up in blood and urine and chlorine is not on the chemical weapons list.

Well, it's done and it was only the chemical research, storage and production facilities, so maybe a good thing. I hope so.

Maybe do something again next time. This one is over. Turn on your TV, JS2, it's all over the news. Pentagon spoke. Strike last an hour, 3 hits, UK, France and US. I guess each of us took 1, so it would be an international coalition.

Russian ambassador to US warns of "consequences" after strikes on Syria

Anatoly Antonov, Russian ambassador to the US, issued a statement on Facebook in response to the strikes on Syria.

He accused the West of carrying out a "pre-designed scenario." He said there would be "consequences," and the responsibility for them lies with Washington, London and Paris.

Antonov added: "Insulting the President of Russia is unacceptable and inadmissible," and said that the US "has no moral right to blame other countries" since it possesses a large arsenal of chemical weapons of its own.

In my opinion, the rhetoric and the strike was to encourage the Gulf States and Israel to get involved in rebuilding Syria and to let them know we will have their backs. There was no proof or evidence of the chemical attack by Syria. Nothing adds up and Mattis was most uncomfortable when being asked about it. From that standpoint, I think the Russians are right that the strike was some sort of "scenario".

Well, I love this President, but I was opposed to last year's strike and this one as well. I think Russia has done a great job in ending the Civil War in Syria. It's time for US to back off and away, get out as soon as possible and let Russia handle it.
