Tucson switches to elections by only mail ballots

Tucson switches to elections by only mail ballots

    Associated Press

TUCSON - All future city elections in Tucson will be done by mail. The Tucson City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday to adopt vote by mail.

In the 2009 city election and 2010 general election, about 65 percent of voters cast ballots by mail.

Council members say voting by mail saves money, increases turn out and makes it easier for people to vote.

The Arizona Daily Star reports the city clerk pushed for all-mail balloting because Tucson is having a tough time servicing voting equipment, finding polling places and enough poll workers on election day.
