Cocaine in truck worth $8.6

BROWNSVILLE — U.S. Border Patrol agents found 270 pounds of cocaine valued at $8.6 million in a tractor-trailer passing through the agency’s Laredo Sector checkpoint on Interstate 35, officials said Monday.

The drugs and truck were seized Saturday. The driver, whose name was not released, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In other seizures announced Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Laredo last week found nearly three tons of marijuana in two commercial trucks enrolled in the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) lane program, touted as a way to allow carefully screened companies speedier bridge crossings.
