A man wanted in connection for shooting his younger brother in Princeton at close range with a shotgun may have fled for the U.S./Mexico border.

Princeton police investigators filed an arrest warrant for 34-year-old Alcides Gerardo Bautista-Perez last Tuesday for shooting his brother, 28-year-old Ociel Bautista-Perez of Bonham on Sunday. Police officers have been trying to locate the suspect since filing the warrant, but have since learned he may be trying to leave the country.

Princeton Police Chief Jeff Barnett said detectives have searched Alcides Bautista-Perez's last known residences and whereabouts including an address in McKinney, but have so far not been able to locate him.

"Detectives have been advised by people who know the suspect that he may have fled to Mexico where he is known to have relatives," Barnett said by email.

Detectives have since placed the arrest warrant into several national databases in the hopes that local law enforcement agencies can locate the suspect before he crosses the border, Barnett said.

"The outstanding warrant for his arrest has been entered into a national law enforcement database in hopes that any other law enforcement agency, including those near the U.S./Mexico border, will locate him if he is still within the country," Barnett said. "The search will continue locally for him and we will follow any credible leads regarding his location."

Barnett said anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts or location can contact the department at 972-736-3555. Callers can also remain anonymous.

Collin County police dispatchers received a call at 4:31 a.m. Sunday from a resident located in the 2500 block of Greenfield Acres. The caller said they found an unknown vehicle in the front yard with the driver repeatedly honking his horn. The driver exited the vehicle and appeared to have a gun shot wound on the left side of his body, but could not locate the weapon in the immediate area.

The driver, later identified as Ociel Bautista-Perez, was "breathing and talking" when the resident found him, according to Collin County dispatch reports.

Princeton police, Collin County deputies and paramedics responded to the call. A ground ambulance transported the victim to Medical Center of Plano. Cece Clements, Medical Center of Plano's marketing coordinator, said he is listed in stable condition as of Tuesday.

Barnett said Ociel Bautista-Perez identified his older brother as the triggerman. He told investigators he and his brother were traveling in separate vehicles heading eastbound on U.S. 380 near the Princeton Oaks intersection. The two had gotten into a dispute over money and pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway where his brother shot him. Ociel Bautista-Perez then drove to a nearby home on Greenfield Acres for help.

Medical Center of Plano officials said he is listed in stable condition.
