Members of the Hemet-San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force discovered an explosive device in their office this morning, Hemet police officials said, adding that had it exploded, it could have leveled the building and killed anyone in it.

Just heard on CNN that the problem was not a device, but that someone had found a way to pump natural gas into the building, which could have caused an explosion.

Investigators with the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force today found their unmarked building in Hemet rigged to blow up, but managed to disarm the threat, police said.

Hemet police believe natural gas was intentionally leaked inside the building.

"It was basically designed so that once somebody came in and moved around a little bit, it would have gone off," Hemet police Lt. Duane Wisehart said. "At the very least, it would have leveled the building and killed whoever was inside."

Gang task force officers entered the building and smelled gas. Detectives notified the fire department and The Riverside County sheriff's bomb squad.

The nondescript building, in the 500 block of St. John Place, was evacuated so experts could do a thorough search for possible additional dangers, Wisehart said.

An update clarified an earlier report concerning a "device" being found at the building.

Authorities are concerned that gang members under investigation may be responsible for the incident.

I agree with the person who said they should suspect the cleaning service. They are there alone at night and they have the keys. They are also very familiar with the building. Next they should suspect maintenance personnel. Plumbers, electricians....like that.

Or maybe someone bumped into the heater, stove or hot water heater and caused a leak in the gas pipe?

You wouldn't even have to enter to fill a room with gas. You could just drill a hole in any wall, floor or ceiling and stink in a hose connected to a propane tank and fill it up. If there is a pilot light on a water heater, stove or furnace it will set it off sooner or later. Or it can be ignited by a spark when you flip a light switch.

This is domestic terrorism, where is the NEWS, WHERE IS NAPLITANO????
