No one went in the building. They piped the gas in from outside.
The pipe they were showing on the news looked like part of it was plastic pipe.

HEMET -- Police say someone tried to blow up a gang task force building by piping in natural gas.

Police say two officers from the Hemet-based task force evacuated the building Thursday after arriving for work and smelling a strong odor.

Hemet police Lt. Duane Wisehart authorities have not found a detonation device, but they believe whoever piped in the gas through the roof intended to cause an explosion.

Wisehart said if someone had turned on a light switch or a lamp or a pilot light and caused a spark, the building would have blown up.

"It was basically designed so that once somebody came in and moved around a little bit, it would have gone off," he said.

"At the very least, it would have leveled the building and killed whoever was inside."

There was no word on possible suspects, but police were working on the theory that the gang detectives were the intended victims.

No injuries or arrests were reported.
