U.S. jobs bounce back in Sept., unemployment 9.1%

U.S. employers added 103,000 workers in September, and August employment wasn’t as bad as first thought, indicating the economy is not getting worse but is not getting a lot better either, according to the jobs report released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The number, however, was skewed by the 45,000 East Coast Verizon workers who walked off the job in early August. They had been counted as unemployed in August but returned to work and are now counted as back on the payroll. So they aren’t “newâ€
