U.S. move to cheaper Chinese condoms threatens American jobs
By MIKE McGRAW

In a move expected to cost 300 American jobs, the government is switching to cheaper off-shore condoms, including some made in China.
At a time when the federal government is spending billions of stimulus dollars to stem the tide of U.S. layoffs, should that same government put even more Americans out of work by buying cheaper foreign products?
In this case, Chinese condoms.
That’s the dilemma for the folks at the U.S. Agency for International Development, which has distributed an estimated 10 billion U.S.-made AIDS-preventing condoms in poor countries around the world.
But not anymore.
In a move expected to cost 300 American jobs, the government is switching to cheaper off-shore condoms, including some made in China.
The switch comes despite implied assurances over the years that the agency would continue to buy American whenever possible.

Get ready for massive condom recalls. They probably wont work. And the lubed condoms? Who knows what the chinese think is ok to use as a lubricant. They probably wont mind using motor oil or something. OMG.

Alabama's senators are our hero, Sen. Jeff Sessions, and Sen. Richard Shelby. Perhaps if they heard from a number of people across the country objecting to this contract change, they might be able to prevent it?!

Those employees at USAID, the ones that let contracts, should be vetted. This makes no sense. Forcing an American company out of business to save taxpayer dollars to provide condoms to foreign countries. And how many taxpayer dollars will go to unemployment, food stamps, etc., to help these newly unemployed until when and if they find other jobs? Of course those little problems are not their responsibility, because they are saving USAID 3 cents per condom.
