The UN Might Hire the Taliban to Protect Facilities

The UN has never been an organization particularly known for its effectiveness, nor for its consistency.

But, though it rarely completes a mission and has such liberal luminaries as Syria on its human rights council, there are some things even the cynical wouldn’t expect it to do.
One such thing is to hire the Taliban to defend its facilities. But, guess what. That’s exactly what it’s considering doing.
News on that comes from Reuters, which reported:

The United Nations is proposing to pay nearly $6 million for protection in Afghanistan to Taliban-run Interior Ministry personnel, whose chief is under U.N. and U.S. sanctions and wanted by the FBI, according to a U.N. document and a source familiar with the matter.
Apparently, the UN is concerned about the security of its building in Kabul. So, rather than doing the prudent thing and retreating or the noble thing and sending a peacekeeping force to stabilize the country, it’s hiring Taliban mercenaries.

It’ll pay their salaries, give them a food allowance, and kindly ask them to not blow up the building and to prevent ISIS-K, now a major terror threat in Afghanistan, from doing the same. It claims such a scheme is necessary because the Taliban is running out of money and allegedly can’t pay the guards.
However, even the bureaucrats who typically give the UN a green pass to go and fail wherever it likes have raised their eyebrows at this hair-brained, probably illegal plan, as ZeroHedge reports:
But then this raises the question (and deeply awkward, ironic situation) of the proposed payments constituting a violation of existing US and UN sanctions.
Of course, the UN is claiming it would not, while without doubt now trying to find legal loopholes around the situation, such as ensuring the funds do not flow through official Taliban leadership and departments, but are [paid] out directly to the guards stationed at UN facilities.
We’ll see if such legalese lets the UN get around the sort of restrictions that its enablers in the Pantsuit Empire are typically so fond of.

Perhaps, because everyone in the West is dying (no pun intended) to wash their hands of Afghanistan, the UN will be able to get away with it.
But, then again, the increased scrutiny caused by Brandon’s failure “over there” could pose an issue for the ineffective, globalist organization.
