The political wars rage on in Washington, D.C., as Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Oh.) calls for a transcribed interview with a former Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) official who allegedly flagged consumer transactions that were marked "TRUMP" or "MAGA."
According to Jordan, a committee he is on obtained documents showing that FinCEN outlined "typologies" of persons of interest in materials that were widely disseminated to financial institutions across America. Such material included "suggested search terms and Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) for identifying transactions on behalf of federal law enforcement after Jan. 6, 2021."
In other words, the FinCEN official in question ordered banks and other financial institutions across the United States to keep an eye on any customer transactions bearing tags that suggest potential involvement in the so-called "insurrection" that occurred during a Trump rally in front of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Not only did the deep state operative(s) at FinCEN call for the flagging of all financial activity possibly involving "domestic terrorists," they also probed into the literature preferences of their targets, which they described as "lone actor" and "homegrown violent extremism indicators."
According to FinCEN, such "extremism" indicators include "transportation charges, such as bus tickets, rental cars, or plane tickets, for travel to areas with no apparent purpose," as well as "the purchase of books (including religious texts) and subscriptions to other media containing extremist views."
"In other words, FinCEN urged large financial institutions to comb through the private transactions of their customers for suspicious charges on the basis of protected political and religious expression," reads Jordan's letter.

Violating Americans' privacy

Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), a ranking member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, responded to the allegations as put forth by Jordan. Scott said that if the FinCEN staffer's allegations are true, they represent "a flagrant violation of Americans' privacy and the improper targeting of U.S. citizens for exercising their constitutional rights without due process."
The concerns of both Jordan and Scott are valid, but why is this kind of thing only just now being addressed by Republicans in Congress? After all, this type of illegal probing into Americans' private affairs has been going on since the George W. Bush era when the so-called "War on Terror" decimated what then-remained of the now-defunct Bill of Rights.
For the first time since the "insurrection," the Biden regime has admitted that Jordan's allegations are true, according to a letter obtained by Fox News Digital. The letter explains that FinCEN's "exchange events" commenced "shortly after January 6 under the prior Administration" and "included terms such as 'antifa,' 'MAGA,' 'Trump,' 'Biden,' 'Kamala,' 'Schumer,' and 'Pelosi.'"
As interesting as this all might seem, one wonders if anything will ever actually happen to punish those responsible for violating Americans' constitutional right to privacy.
"They'll all get away with it ... as usual," wrote one skeptical commenter, echoing that point.
"By all natural right, the government criminals who engaged in this behavior should be duly prosecuted and their cases judiciously and fairly disposed of," notes Ben Bartee, writing for The Daily Bell. "Alas, in all matters of state malfeasance, who is going to watch the watchmen?"
"The remedy is the people, of course – patriots, the ultimate check on state power – as the Founders intended in a functional representative system of governance. But doing so will land said patriot on the kind of government list he was protesting in the first place ... I believe this is what they call a Catch-22."
