A US college student has told police he killed his roommate, cut up the body and ate part of the victim's brain and his whole heart, according to US media reports.

Alexander Kinyua of Baltimore, Maryland, was arrested on Tuesday after police searched his house following the discovery by his brother of the victim's head and hands, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Kinyua, a 21-year-old student at Morgan State University, confessed on Thursday to murdering and dismembering his roommate, Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, and then eating parts of his brain followed by his entire heart, the Sun said.

The motive was unclear, but Kinyua was charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday.

The grisly murder caps an especially gruesome week of crimes in North America.

Interpol has launched a manhunt for a Canadian porn star suspected of dismembering his boyfriend and making a video of the murder, while a young man in Miami was shot dead on Saturday as he gnawed off the face of a homeless man.

Porn actor wanted for murder over body parts in Canada mail

A bisexual porn actor and stripper is being hunted over the killing of a man in Canada and the mailing of his body parts to different places including the headquarters of the country’s Conservative Party, police said.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, is wanted for homicide, Montreal police said late Wednesday at a news conference – amid reports a video of the killing had been posted on a website specializing in ‘gore’.

Reports on Thursday said Magnotta has previously been accused of torturing kittens and having a relationship with notorious Canadian sex killer Karla Homolka - although he strongly denied both.

Police on Thursday said he is believed to have fled North America.

Magnotta, believed to originally be from Toronto, was renting an apartment in a working-class Montreal neighborhood. It was behind that building that police found a man's torso in a suitcase in a heap of garbage Tuesday, police said. That same day, a foot was found in a package mailed to the Conservative party headquarters in Ottawa, and a hand found at postal warehouse in the Canadian capital. The package with the hand was addressed to the Liberal Party of Canada. Early testing shows the three body parts come from the same man, police said.

BALTIMORE — A victim left partially blinded by a baseball bat attack at a Maryland university now believes a cannibalism suspect in another case may have been planning to eat his organs, too, his attorney said Tuesday.

When Joshua Ceasar regained consciousness after the attack last month at a Morgan State University dormitory apartment, he saw Alex Kinyua standing over him with a knife, said attorney Steve Silverman. Days later, Kinyua told investigators that he had eaten the heart and brain of a family friend he is charged with killing at his family’s home in Joppatowne, according to charging documents.

Authorities in Maryland say the man accused of murdering his roommate and eating his organs was out on $220,000 bail after being arrested for allegedly beating another man with a baseball bat just days earlier.

“In hindsight, knowing what transpired only days later, Josh is convinced that Alex was going to cut open his body and likely consume his organs,” Silverman said. What may have prevented it was two other apartment residents followed a blood trail from the front door and stopped Kinyua before he could use the knife and he fled into nearby woods.

Campus police charged Kinyua with assault and reckless endangerment in the bat attack and he was freed on $220,000 bail. Ceasar said Kinyua randomly attacked him, according to a probable cause statement obtained from Baltimore police. Witnesses said Kinyua attacked Ceasar with a bat, but the statement does not mention witnesses interrupting a knife attack in a back room.

Kinyua’s attorney could not be reached for comment.

Kinyua was waiting with a bat wrapped in barbed wire and chains when an unsuspecting Ceasar walked through the front door of the apartment Kinyua had been sharing with Ceasar’s friends on May 19, Silverman said. Ceasar was visiting campus for another friend’s graduation. He lost consciousness when Kinyua cracked him on the head, fracturing his skull and shattering his left eye socket. Ceasar is blind in that eye and doctors aren’t optimistic that he will regain his sight, Silverman said.

Kinyua, 21, a U.S. citizen originally from Kenya and a Morgan student, admitted using a knife to kill and carve up 37-year-old Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie before eating his organs, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said when they arrested him May 30. The older man, a native of Ghana, had been staying with the Kinyua family for about six weeks at their townhouse in the Baltimore suburb of Joppatowne and disappeared May 25. His body was found four days later and investigators haven’t given a possible motive.

Silverman said he is investigating if there were earlier signs that Kinyua was a danger.

“We are in the process of ... determining whether or not university officials should have or could have done anything in light of what was known to them to protect students, family and friends on campus for graduation,” he said. “It appears preliminarily there were a number of indicators.”

A December campus police report obtained by The Baltimore Sun states that Kinyua was kicked out of an ROTC program after he punched holes in the walls of the cadet computer lab and a military instructor referred to him as a “Virginia Tech waiting to happen.” The report said Kinyua was barred from campus until a meeting with school officials and that two officers didn’t think a psychological evaluation was needed.

Agyei-Kodie’s sister, Irene Konadu Asante, said the family would discuss the possibility of taking legal action on Thursday, following tradition in Ghana of waiting a week after a death before holding a family meeting.
She said the funeral would be held in Ghana, “whatever it takes,” but arrangements had not yet been made. When asked how her family is reacting to the horrific way in which her brother was killed, she said it is not easy.

“It’s not only my family — the way it hit the whole world,” Asante said. “It’s more than you can imagine.”

BALTIMORE (AP) – When a Kenyan cannibalism suspect had an outburst last year in a Morgan State University computer lab, college officials evaluated him and found that he didn't pose a threat to the campus.

Now, a former student who said he was beaten with a baseball bat days before the gruesome attack says the university should have done more to warn people about Alex Kinyua, the man charged in both cases.

Joshua Ceasar said Friday that if he had heard about the December outburst in the lab he would have steered clear of Kinyua and dodged an attack that left him partially blind. The outburst got Kinyua kicked out of a collegiate military training program. Kinyua also made cryptic comments about "blood sacrifice" at a January university forum with administrators present.

"If I knew, I wouldn't have been anywhere near him or that building," Ceasar said. His attorney, Steve Silverman, is exploring a lawsuit and investigating whether the university could have done more.

The university is doing a "top-to-bottom" review, but it appears procedures were followed, school spokesman Clinton Coleman said.

Two campus officers visited Kinyua after the December outburst and he was assessed by the counseling center, Coleman said.

"If the university had reason to believe that any student or non-student represented a danger, of course the university would have taken the appropriate steps to remove the person from campus or render them harmless," he said.

In early May, police received a report that a young man matching Kinyua's description was carrying a machete around campus, Coleman said. Officers immediately tracked him to his room and searched, but didn't find such a weapon, he said.

Ceasar, who remained friends with Kinyua's roommates even though he had transferred to another school, was on campus May 19 for a friend's graduation. He walked into Kinyua's apartment and was hit on the head with a baseball bat wrapped in chains and barbed wire.

Ceasar said he doesn't know why Kinyua attacked him. Ceasar's friends told him they found Kinyua over Ceasar with a knife.

Days later, Ceasar learned Kinyua had told the Harford County Sheriff's investigators that he used a knife to kill and carve up Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, 37, before eating his heart and brain. Agyei-Kodie, a native of Ghana, had been staying at the Kinyua family's home for about six weeks when he disappeared May 25.

His body was found four days later about 15 miles away from campus. Investigators haven't given a possible motive.

"It freaked me out because I figured that's exactly what he was going to do to me if he was standing over top of me with a knife," Ceasar said. "He was probably planning to do that to me and that just doesn't sit easy with me. I think about it all the time."

Kinyua has been charged with assault and reckless endangerment in the Ceasar attack, and murder and assault in the killing.

Attorney Richard Boucher, who represented Kinyua at a bail hearing in the assault, told the judge that Kinyua acted out of fear for his life when he hit Ceasar. Kinyua had told the attorney that Ceasar had told him he would have a gun the next time he saw him, he said.

"He felt threatened and that's why he responded in the manner that he did," Boucher said. Ceasar said he never threatened Kinyua.
