Right on cue, Democratic politician makes insulting, racist remark about Clarence Thomas’ marriage

Just hours after Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas remarked that he has endured more racism from northern liberals than from southern conservatives, an Alabama politician demonstrated that southern liberals can be just as racist as their northern counterparts: Alabama State Rep. Alvin Holmes, a Democrat and black man, derogatorily referred to Thomas as an “Uncle Tom,” and said he doesn’t like the esteemed justice because Thomas is married to a white woman.
Holmes’ remarks were reported by Mary Sell, a writer for The Times Daily. She said via Twitter:Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, just said on House floor that he doesn’t like Clarence Thomas because “he’s married to a white woman.”Holmes later clarified that he believed he had been misinterpreted, and meant to say that some other people dislike Thomas because he is married to a white woman. The Democratic politician did, however, make it clear that he believes Thomas is an “Uncle Tom,” according to The Washington Times. The derogatory expression is used to demean black people who are seen by other blacks–and by white liberals–as willing defenders of white interests.

The comment underscores one of the points that Thomas made during a speech at Palm Beach Atlantic University on Tuesday. He said that people today are more obsessed with race and identity politics than ever before, and that the most racist people he ever encountered were liberal elites, not southern conservatives.

Conservative pundit Dan Calabrese said of the incident: “In fairness to Rep. Holmes, all he did was say publicly what many liberals say privately about Justice Thomas and his wife Ginni, who by the way is brilliant in her own right.”

When reached for comment by a reporter for the Anniston Star, Mr. Holmes said he was misinterpreted, but added that Justice Thomas was an “Uncle Tom,” the National Review reported.
“I said some people might say I didn’t like him because he was married to a white woman,” Mr. Holmes told the Anniston Star, before including the “Uncle Tom” addendum.Just days before Mr. Holmes‘ comment, Justice Thomas told a crowd at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida that the “worst things that have been done to me, the worst things that have been said about me, [were] by northern liberal elites, not by the people of Savannah, Georgia,” Yahoo News reported.

A Democrat attacked a black Supreme Court Justice's marriage to a white woman and called him an Uncle Tom.
Clarence Thomas has the perfect response...
A Day After Clarence Thomas Says We're Too Race-Conscious, Lawmaker Calls Him 'Uncle Tom'
Caroline Schaeffer | On 13, Feb 2014
A day after Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas told an audience of college students that the country focuses too much on race, an Alabama State Representative took to the House floor to first criticize Thomas’ interracial marriage, and then call him “Uncle Tom.”
Thomas, the second black justice to serve on the court, told students at Palm Beach Atlantic University that people people are much more hyper race- and difference-conscious today than they were in the pre-Civil Rights era in Savannah, Georgia. He said he has experienced poorer treatment and discrimination on account of his race in the North than in the South.
Via Yahoo News:“The worst I have been treated was by northern liberal elites. The absolute worst I have ever been treated,” Thomas said. “The worst things that have been done to me, the worst things that have been said about me, by northern liberal elites, not by the people of Savannah, Georgia.”According to Tweets by Alabama news reporters Mary Sell and Tim Lockette, State Representative Alvin Holmes (who is also black) then used Thomas’ speech as an opportunity to criticize his interracial marriage and then call Thomas an “Uncle Tom” – while on the statehouse floor to discuss a bill about land surveying.
And how would he work Thomas into a speech about land surveying? By making up a story that Thomas was a failed land surveyor before law school, of course. He later attempted to walk back his comments about Thomas’ marriage, saying they were misinterpreted.
If there was a more eloquent way of legitimizing Thomas’ comments, I couldn’t think of one. With the country’s hyper-sensitivity and prevalent race-baiting culture (think MSNBC), we have become a nation where any talk of race issues is immediately criticized if doesn’t fit the liberal mold. Political correctness is the norm, and those who speak outside of it are personally attacked.

The Alabama Assembly has a record of everything said on the floor. I think that this man should be censored by the Assembly.
Dem. Lawmaker Backs Off Comments about Clarence Thomas’ Interracial Marriage, Still Calls Him ‘Uncle Tom’

Alabama state representative Alvin Holmes is no fan of Clarence Thomas. On Tuesday, the same day Thomas told an audience he is treated worse by “northern liberal elites” than he was growing up in the segregated South, Holmes took to the statehouse floor to make disparaging comments about the Supreme Court justice’s marriage to a white woman.

Transracial adoption rally in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY - AL -A statement made on the floor of the state house last month in Montgomery got a loud reply this afternoon from angry parents.
State representative Alvin Holmes said republican lawmakers would support abortion if their daughters became pregnant by black men. Holmes later said he would offer $100,000 cash to anyone who could show "a whole bunch of whites" have adopted black children in Alabama.
Today at the state house, white parents who adopted mixed race or minority children said it's time for Holmes to 'pay up.'
Beverly Owings is an adoptive mother of a 13-year-old bi-racial daughter. "I would like for him to 'man up.' He's made the statement. He needs to put his money where is mouth is."
Owings, a supporter of trans racial adoptions in Alabama, is part of a movement called Faces of Families in Alabama.
Supporters of trans racial adoptions rallied this afternoon to show that families shouldn't be defined by race.
Owing's husband Jeromy, says his family has worked hard to break down racial barriers
"After we work on it and work on it to have an elected official that can come in and make those comments and tear down everything that we've worked hard for. It puts a question in their minds of 'Do I belong?' 'Where do I belong?"
Now, Owings demands a public apology from representative Holmes.
Several attempts to reach representative Holmes for an interview did not receive a response
