No publication appears to be immune from the double-fisted hit of the recession and newspaper industry downturn.
USA Today, one of the nation’s largest newspapers, is forcing its employees to take a week of unpaid leave at some point over the next four months.
According to a Feb. 11 memo from publisher Dave Hunke obtained by Gannett Blog, all employees are expected to go on one weeklong furlough between Feb. 28 and July 3.
Hunke said in the memo that while “some business conditions have improved slightly,â€NO AMNESTY
Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.

Everyone taking one week off is far better than anyone getting laid off.
Add it to your vacation and be glad you have a job to go back to.NO AMNESTY

Newspapers have done this to themselves. With loss of revenue from advertisers, and fewer people buying the papers when they can get the same content on line for free, they have to do this or otherwise shut down totally, meaning job losses for all the staff, rather than just unpaid vacations.
