Saturday's and Sunday's 17th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival in downtown Phoenix attracted tens of thousands again this year.
May 5 celebrates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862.
Festival participants are drawn to the chance to honor Mexican culture and customs, food and music.
Over the past few years Cinco de Mayo festivals have grown in popularity in the United States, especially in cities with large numbers of Hispanic ancestry.
However, the holiday has also attracted those of various nationalities, much like St. Patrick's Day for the Irish or the Chinese New Year.
