The area I live in here in NC has lost THOUSANDS of jobs due to overseas competition and outsourcing. We are losing another plant and 700 more jobs. This is just one of MANY plant closings in the area. But, the ILLEGAL POPULATION keeps on GROWING here and they are taking the few jobs left. You know, the construction, food service, and landscaping jobs. I wish El Presidente Bush would visit this area and try to tell the people here how "STRONG OUR ECONOMY IS". He totally ignores areas like ours, where there are massive job losses and large numbers of illegals, he wouldn't want the truth to leak out, now would he?

Broyhill Furniture to lay off almost 700 at Lenoir plant

06/10/2006

Associated Press

Broyhill Furniture, which has closed five plants in this area of North Carolina since January 2005, said Friday it would close another, resulting in the loss of almost 700 jobs.

Broyhill will close its 522,000-square-foot Pacemaker plant in Lenoir on Aug. 26, the company told employees Friday.

"This incredibly difficult decision is a direct result of the competitive pressures we are seeing in our domestically produced case goods products," said Tom Lentz, company spokesman. "Unfortunately, this has become a too familiar consequence of the increasingly global manufacturing environment in which our products must compete."

Broyhill will have about 1,900 employees following the layoff.

Since January 2005, Broyhill has closed five plants in the region, cutting more than 1,000 jobs.

Broyhill is part of Furniture Brands International, which is also parent company of Drexel Heritage, Henredon, Lane, Maitland-Smith and Thomasville.
