KNOXVILLE (WATE) - One person was killed and two others were wounded Monday when a man opened fire at Parkwest Medical Center in West Knoxville.

The shooter is also dead, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

No names or conditions have been released.

Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen IV said investigators don't know if there's any connection between the suspect and the shooting victims. All three victims were employees or former employees of the hospital.

"It doesn't appear at this time [the shooter] was an employee," Chief Owen said.

The shooting happened outside a door at the patient discharge center at 9352 Park West Boulevard.

It was first reported with multiple 911 calls at 4:34 p.m. at the hospital.

Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said he doesn't know how many people were in the area when the shootings happened.

The facility was put on lockdown and a SWAT team swept through the building, but police say there were no other people involved in the shooting.
