Wal-Mart to add 4,000 jobs, invest $400 million in S.C.

WEST COLUMBIA–Wal-Mart will expand its S.C. operations to 4,000 new jobs over five years, announced company CEO Bill Simon at Wednesday news conference. Dozens of new stores are planned across the state, he said.
S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley said the planned $400 million investment had nothing to do with Amazon nixing plans for a Lexington County distribution center last week. And Simon said Wal-Mart’s move toward expansion had been under way for months.
Wal-Mart currently has 77 locations in S.C. plus nine Sam’s Clubs and two distribution centers. Average full-time hourly wages are $12.80.
