    What Car Do You Buy?

I want to buy an automobile in the future.

I don't want to by from a government company.
I want it made in the USA!
I don't want the government GPS's or listening devices in it either.

What are the Dealers makes, and latest years I can buy?

I have a 1993 F150 now. If it dies I need to replace it,
so I want to know my choices. I like older vehicles.

I hope my old '97 van keeps going. It gets great gas mileage and I have plenty of room for family and traveling. And when the hard times hit I could live out of it. Who knows what the world governments have planned for us?

I would ask the local garage guys. I bought my 95 Chevy Lumina, one of their rental cars, from my repair shop, in 2001. It had low mileage, and today I just passed the 80K mile mark. They also managed to contact their friends and customers about my Cougar, and I sold it in a few days.
If it is used, that means that GM and Toyota made their money when it was bought brand-new. Now you are only giving a profit to the car lot, or the previous owner if it is one of those consignment lots.
I don't know if there is a Hertz or Alamo used car lot nearby, but they would be worth checking out, as they usually have very-low mileage cars.

That's a hard question to answer, considering that so many "foreign" cars are assembled in the U.S. Hope this article helps:

    http://www.cars.com/go/advice/Story.jsp ... amMade0709

    Make/Model Domestic-parts content Assembly location
    Ford Taurus 90 percent Chicago
    Lincoln MKS 85 percent Chicago
Toyota Sienna 85 percent Princeton, Ind.
GMC Savana 1500 82 percent Wentzville, Mo.
Chevrolet Express 1500 82 percent Wentzville, Mo.
    Buick Lucerne 81 percent Detroit
Chevrolet Malibu 80 percent Kansas City, Kan.
Honda Odyssey 80 percent Lincoln, Ala.
Toyota Avalon 80 percent Georgetown, Ky.
Toyota Tundra 80 percent San Antonio
Toyota Venza 80 percent Georgetown, Ky.
    Source: NHTSA, automaker data

    ......

That isn't to say every GM, Ford or Chrysler is homegrown. The Chevy Aveo, for example, is built in Korea with 1 percent domestic parts. Chrysler's recently discontinued PT Cruiser was built in Mexico, with a domestic-parts content of just 27 percent. Its GM doppelganger, the Chevy HHR, also hails from south of the border, with a domestic-parts content rating of 50 percent. Detroit's latest muscle cars, the 2010 Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro, have a middling 60 percent domestic content, while their crosstown rival, the Dodge Challenger, comes in at 56 percent. Of the three, the Mustang is the only car built here; the Challenger and Camaro are assembled in Canada.

I would buy a Ford as they are up there in quality with the Japanese. Them giving money to LaRaza does not make me happy but at least the money stays in the United Stated. Imports produced here still have money going overseas and they also often time have top positions filled by people from their country who are here on visas. Those jobs could be done by Americans. When I lived in Canada we have a Toyota plant in a neighboring city and their labor practices were horrible. I went through the application process and the interview was horrible. They kept asking the same questions over and over like they didn't trust you. When you brought it to their attention you were guaranteed not to get the job. They wanted milk horses with blinders. They also never got a union in even though there were numerous attempts to and every employee had a number and if they needed people to work overtime and your number came up you had to stay.

Thanks guys, I was leaning towards Fords because , weren't the the only ones that didn't take Stimulus Money?

    Plus I have F150

I heard someone on TV say Subaru's were mostly made in America, and wondered.

My first car was an 88 Dodge Shadow. It lasted for 220,000 miles. My second car was a 91 Toyota Paseo which broke down after 89,000 miles. I bought an old 81 Firebird after that until the poor thing couldn't run any longer. After that, me and my wife bought a 98 Toyota Corrolla which gave us problems from day one, and finally petered out at 136,000 miles. We bought a 2007 Dodge Caliber which we have now and it's the best car I have ever owned. I haven't had much luck with foreign cars.

I buy my cars 3 years old with under 50,00 miles.
That way I can pay 1/2 price and with cash.
I've seen people get new vehicles and take them back constantly to "work out the kinks."
I then keep my cars 15 years.
I don't like the plain style of anything from 2000 up.
I like the late 60's and all the 70's the most.

    I had a 1973 Mach1 - Special Edition, itwas 6-months old.
It's the newest vehicle I've ever had. I got it in my Senior year.
I had a 1972 convertible VW Bug that was lemon yellow.
What I liked about that was I could carry this big " How To Keep A
Volkswagon Alive"book with diagrams and cartoons. Usually I could fix it myself!! It was a classic and broke down all the time...

I loved both of those cars.......... I miss them

1973 Mach1? NICE!! I would LOVE to have that car! So beautiful! The 2007 Caliber I have was the first time I paid cash. When me and my wife went car shopping was when I discovered my ID was stolen by and IA (which brought me to Alipac to begin with) after YEARS of repairing my credit because I was a stupid teenager when I got my credit cards. Luckily, I received a substantial check shortly after as a result of a lawsuit that was filed by my great aunt against a nursing home (since my mom died of cancer in 1998, me and my brother received some of the settlement) for the death of my great-grandmother, and for the first time, I had the dealers in my pocket. I walked off the lot with my 2007 Caliber for $9,900 including TTL. Having cash up front was the best feeling I have ever had!
