WANTED: Guadalupe Gonzalez Jimenez
LA detectives identify suspect in 1980 killing
Comments Mar 27, 2009 AP
LOS ANGELES - Police on Friday named a prime suspect wanted for the slaying of a woman whose body was found sexually assaulted in her North Hollywood home in 1980.
Guadalupe Gonzalez Jimenez, 53, was identified after cold case detectives in 2006 began re-examining evidence, interviewing witnesses again and reviewing modern criminal databases. Police said the detectives linked forensic evidence to Gonzalez, though they did not provide details.
Jimenez is suspected of killing Lois Hale, 39, whose body was found by her 15-year-old daughter. A motive was not released.
"This was a very petite, beautiful woman with a heart of gold, and this animal came in like a rat in the night and took her," said Gary Ryan, who was Hale's fiance. "We were going to grow old together. Now I'm the only one growing old."
Detective Thomas Townsend said police had been looking for Gonzalez since they identified him last fall. Police will seek an arrest warrant next week and detectives hope a tipster can help them locate the suspect.
Police said Gonzalez has ties to the Pacific Northwest but was originally from Mexicali in Mexico. He is missing the tip of his right index finger and has the word "Mambro" tattooed on his left biceps.

Authorities have no idea of Jimenez's whereabouts. A native of Mexicali, Baja California, he had been deported twice for convictions on burglary, assault and weapons charges in California and Oregon, police said.
