The amphibious transport dock San Diego — HII/USS Navy

Huntington Ingalls Industries on Monday formally delivered the 684-foot amphibious transport dock San Diego to the Navy, clearing the way for the ship's first full crew to move aboard the vessel in January. The ship will be commissioned next year and moved to San Diego, its permanent home, probably in the spring.
The new vessel is one of at least four military ships to bear the name San Diego. The ships include the light cruiser San Diego (CL-53), which was among the most decorated American vessels in World War II. It was awarded 18 battle stars for its performance in the Pacific theater.
