White House jokes Jim Acosta should wish Stephen Miller a happy birthday

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders joked to reporters aboard Air Force One on Wednesday that White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller wanted to hear from CNN reporter Jim Acosta on his birthday.


Sanders started briefing reporters on their way back from Reno, Nev., about administration-related news and mentioned it was Miller's birthday. The former senior adviser to then-Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama turned 32 years old on Wednesday.




"If you have Jim Acosta's email, I'm sure Stephen would love to hear from him," Sanders said. "Make sure you let him know [about Miller's birthday]."
Acosta later posted a tweet that he had completed the request.


"Done," he wrote.


Miller and Acosta got into a tense debateduring a White House press briefing earlier this month. Miller, who usually never addresses the media, took the podium that day to explain why Trump was supporting the revised Senate version of the RAISE Act, which would implement a skills-based immigration program.


Acosta told Miller it sounded like Trump wanted to take in only English-speaking immigrants from Great Britain and Australia.


Miller responded that it was "insulting" to assume only people in those countries speak English and accused Acosta of wearing his "cosmopolitan bias" on his sleeve.
"Have you honestly never met an immigrant from another country who speaks English outside of Great Britain and Australia? Is that your personal experience?" Miller asked. "It shows your cosmopolitan bias."


Acosta has previously engaged in tense back-and-forths with White House communications officials in press briefings.
