White shoppers call for boycott after black Sam’s Club CEO Rosalind Brewer rips lack of diversity with company's top suppliers

Sam’s Club CEO Rosalind Brewer, who is black, angered dozens of white meatheads when she said that high-ranking positions with the company's top suppliers are often filled by white males.

Brewer made the comments to CNN's Poppy Harlow after she was asked about diversity within the company.

"Just today we met with a supplier, and the entire other side of the table was all Caucasian males," Brewer said during the interview. "That was interesting.

I decided not to talk about it directly with [the supplier's] folks in the room because there were actually no females, like, levels down. So I'm going to place a call to him."

Brewer also told Poppy Harlow “my executive team is very diverse, and I make that a priority. I demand it of my team and within the structure.

And then, every now and then, you have to nudge your partners, and you have to speak up and speak out."

Many people are now speaking out against Brewer, calling her racist and using the Twitter hashtag "BoycottRacistSamsClub." Sam's Club, which has 650 stores nationwide, is owned by Walmart.

"I am so disappointed in you @SamsClub You should be ASHAMED! I'm NOT spending another cent! #BoycottRacistSamsClub," read one tweet.

"If Sams Club hates white males so much, then we'll take our business elsewhere!," read another.

"You hired a CEO based on race instead of skillset," another user wrote.

Some people on social media did come to Brewer's defense.

"Did the ppl who are outraged & tweeting about a #SamsClub #boycott actually here the interview or just jumping on the hype?" one user tweeted.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon could not immediately be reached for comment, but he praised Brewer in a statement.

For years, we've asked our suppliers to prioritize the talent and diversity of their sales teams calling on our company," McMillon said.

"Roz was simply trying to reiterate that we believe diverse and inclusive teams

make for a stronger business. That's all there is to it and I support that important ideal."
