WI-Letter from Senator Kohl Re: The DREAM ACT

    April 8, 2009

    Dear :

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I always
enjoy hearing from people back home in Wisconsin, and I would
like to address your concerns about the DREAM Act.

On March 26, 2009, Senator Durbin introduced S. 729, the
"Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act of
2009," or DREAM Act. The DREAM Act aims to eliminate the
barriers that undocumented minors currently face in pursuing a
college education or serving in the military. The bill would allow
conditional legal residency status for children who came to the
U.S. before the age of 16 and have resided here for at least five
years. They must also graduate from high school or earn a GED.
Once they have obtained conditional status, individuals would be
eligible to apply for permanent legal status after completing two
years of college or military service. If an individual does not
complete the two year education or service requirement, his or her
status is reverted back to illegal.

The DREAM Act includes safeguards to ensure that only
those of good moral standing are eligible to change their
immigration status. The bill also contains strong anti-fraud
measures and penalties for those who try to cheat the system.

The DREAM Act has been referred to the Judiciary
Committee, of which I am a member. I will be certain to keep your
thoughts in mind as we consider this legislation and other reforms
    to our immigration system.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. I
appreciate knowing your thoughts on this important issue.

    Sincerely,

    Herb Kohl
    U.S. Senator

    Yup, amnesty claptrap.

"Safeguards" ?? Hardly. See this from Rosemary Jenks at NumbersUSA to see how flawed this amnesty scheme is:

A line-by-line analysis of the DREAM Act (as introduced in the U.S. Senate) reveals no end to the nightmares. (1) The amnesty applies to illegal-alien "kids" up to age 35; (2) aliens merely need to make a "claim" that they are qualified for the amnesty -- they don't have to provide any proof that the claims are true; (3) but the feds have to perform costly, time-consuming investigations to prove the claims are false in order to deny an amnesty to anybody; (4) the parents who broke the law to bring these "kids" here can get U.S. citizenship; (5) DREAM would remove the federal ban on in-state tuition for future illegal aliens.

Legal status is a barrier? Think Mexico will open their schools for Americans who run into barriers like money and grades and welcome them with open arms? I can guarentee the very next "barrier" will be they are poor and can't afford to go unless they get it for FREE, while we have our own citizens facing the same "barrier". Or all professors must speak Spanish because they still won't speak English and to heck with Americans and other immigrants or kids here on student visas.

By the time they reach 35 many illegal aliens "students" are grandparents.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

There's no safeguards....heck they won't even deport them if they commit a felony and are in this "program". No background checks, nothing.

I've been sending emails to the members of this committee (Senate Judiciary) protesting the fact that this Bill in particular is being heavily lobbied by NON-CITIZENS posing as "constituents"! This is truly an outrageous assault on our principle of representative democracy. Non-citizens are NOT voting constituents no matter if they think they are, they should not be allowed to call the Congress while they are here illegally and not registered as foreign agents.
