Without Hispanics & Asians, some US cities would be smal

Without influxes of Hispanics and Asians, some U.S. cities would be smaller

By Carol Morello and Dan Keating,
    Tuesday, April 5, 7:45 PM

More than half of the United States’ 100 largest cities relied on Hispanics and Asians to grow and would have seen their populations decline without them over the past decade, a Washington Post analysis shows.

According to recent census data, Hispanics accounted for the population growth of Philadelphia, Phoenix, Indianapolis, Omaha and Atlanta. Asians boosted the count in Anaheim, Calif.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Baton Rouge; and Jersey City. Without influx from the two groups, all of those cities would have shrunk.

Non-Hispanic whites and blacks made a difference in only a handful of big cities that grew. The District was one of the few cities among the top 100 to experience a population increase as a result of growth among whites.

The demographic changes sweeping the nation are transforming many cities, making them even more multiethnic, even as many blacks and whites are spurning cities for the suburbs. Six of the 10 largest cities are majority minority.

Much of the growth can be attributed to recent immigrants, part of a pattern that has determined city size throughout much of American history. Many came in search of job opportunities, making population growth a marker of a city’s economy and vitality.

Most of the 100 biggest cities grew between 2000 and 2010. The top gainers were in the West and South, including San Antonio, Fort Worth and El Paso in Texas, and Raleigh and Charlotte in North Carolina.

The 21 cities that lost people included Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Buffalo and Milwaukee. Detroit had the biggest drop, shedding 25 percent of its population. Other industrial cities that had declines included St. Louis and Baltimore, which fell 5 percent.

In many cases, what determined whether a city grew or contracted was the number of Hispanics and, to a lesser degree, Asians it attracted. Among the 100 biggest cities, 26 would have had population losses without an influx of Hispanics, and 11 would have shrunk without Asians.

Cities that do not attract more new immigrant communities over the next decade will hemorrhage population, demographers predicted.

“The real energy in cities is going to be from Hispanics coming in,â€

Sounds, nice. Sure would be nice to have the population of some of these cities drop.

But this conclusion forgets that fact that many people are leaving some of these cities due to the problems caused by rampant illegal immigration and assimilated immigrant communities.

Perhaps these cities would still have grown without the influx and perhaps many of the Americans fled.

The post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy

(after this therefore because of this) fallacy is based upon the mistaken notion that simply because one thing happens after another, the first event was a cause of the second event. Post hoc reasoning is the basis for many superstitions and erroneous beliefs.

Many events follow sequential patterns without being causally related. For example, you have a cold, so you drink fluids and two weeks later your cold goes away. You have a headache so you stand on your head and six hours later your headache goes away. You put acne medication on a pimple and three weeks later the pimple goes away. You perform some task exceptionally well after forgetting to bathe, so the next time you have to perform the same task you don't bathe. A solar eclipse occurs so you beat your drums to make the gods spit back the sun. The sun returns, proving to you the efficacy of your action.

You use your dowsing stick and then you find water. You imagine heads coming up on a coin toss and heads comes up. You rub your lucky charm and what you wish for comes true. You lose your lucky charm and you strike out six times. You have a "vision" that a body is going to be found near water or in a field and later a body is found near water or in a field. You have a dream that an airplane crashes and an airplane crashes the next day or crashed the night before.

However, sequences don't establish a probability of causality any more than correlations do. Coincidences happen. Occurring after an event is not sufficient to establish that the prior event caused the later one. To establish the probability of a causal connection between two events, controls must be established to rule out other factors such as chance or some unknown causal factor. Anecdotes aren't sufficient because they rely on intuition and subjective interpretation. A controlled study is necessary to reduce the chance of error from self-deception.

Using this logic the cure for the decline in the population of cities like Dteroit is to declare sanctuary policies and invite in illegal aliens. The United States has not acheived its success from allowing in large numbers of people whose receipt of public services is larger than whatr they pay in taxes. It has stemmed from increasing the average level of education and process improvement mechanization. Detroit should be producing farm mechanization equipment. The reason Detroit became the nations automotive center is that they were already the center for the production of tractors and farm equipment.

This rationalization for mass immigration and amnesty fails to take into account that fertility of the Americans in these cities has gone down due to unemployment.

Is growth a good thing , especially when you have about 50 million on welfare?

I thought we had immigration quotas? , It appears we don't ,

Sooner or later the boat turns over , The people paying taxes to support
    these hoards will run out.

What will not run out and many people are not realizing , 3rd world countries NEVER run out of people to migrate , both legal and illegal, the birth rates in these poor countries are through the roof

I guess thats why they don't have many rocket scientists in these countries

Lets have 12 kids when papa makes 15cents an hour

    Big flipping deal,

Without influxes of BODIES, the cities would be smaller.

So would entitlement programs, so would class sizes, so would crime, and so on and so on.

    Smaller is a GOOD thing.

In my small city I see a lot of farmground that has turned into NEW houses for the poor(think $89 monthly mortgage payments), trailor parks, recreational ground and apartment buildings. Nebraska is part of the bread basket and we need the farmland not more people especially ones that suck off of the taxpayers.
