A witness helped Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies by detaining a man who ultimately was arrested in connection with two traffic crashes that caused a power outage Friday evening in Bonita Springs.
Uvinergi Ortiz-Perez, 23, of 13660 Bonita Springs Road, Bonita Springs, was arrested on complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs/first offense, DUI resulting in property damage (three counts), driving without a valid license and leaving the scene of a traffic crash (four counts), according to an arrest report. He has no previous arrests in Lee County, computerized records show.
According to the arrest report:
A deputy was dispatched to a hit-and-run crash after 6 p.m. Friday at Old 41 Road and Terry Street. He found a GMC truck in the turn lane that had minor rear-end damage and moderate front-end damage. The driver told the deputy he was second in line to turn left onto Terry from Old U.S. 41 when a light-colored Toyota struck his vehicle from the rear.
The Toyota’s driver fled on foot without putting the vehicle in park. It rolled backwards, striking a light pole, knocking it down and causing the outage.
The driver realized his truck was still drivable, jumped into it and attempted to drive off. The GMC driver attempted to block the Toyota from leaving, but the driver accelerated and hit the truck a second time going south on Old 41 Road.
At that point, the driver attempted to turn left onto Goodwin Street, striking a second vehicle and again attempted to flee the scene in the Toyota. A witness to the first crash, Ryan Kuhnert, had followed the Toyota and managed to block the Toyota and get the driver out of it, holding him until deputies arrived.
Other witnesses at the scene of the first crash remained to give deputies their account of what occurred.
When the deputy approached the Toyota’s driver, the deputy smelled a “very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.â€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Now if it was an American male doing this, he'd be thrown down a hole so deep you'd have to pipe sunlight to him.
