CHICAGO (Associated Press) -Five people have died and at least 42 people — including a 3-year-old boy — have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The 3-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the head Friday about 7:30 p.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, authorities said.

The boy's father, 26-year-old James Jenkins, was charged and ordered held on $500,00 bond Sunday for owning the gun that either the 3-year-old or a sibling accidentally discharged at a home in the 4300 block of West Monroe, prosecutors said.

The child was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, officials said.

Jenkins is charged with felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a parolee.

The most recent fatal shooting occurred Sunday afternoon in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

A 14-year-old boy was in the 1100 block of North Leclaire at 2:52 p.m. when two males approached him, police said. One of the males was armed and fired shots at the boy, striking him in the back. The two then got in to a dark Infiniti and drove off, police said.

Marcus McCarty, who lived a block south of the shooting, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead an hour later, the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

Several hours earlier, another teen was shot to death in Little Village early Sunday.

The 16-year-old was talking to friends on the sidewalk in the 2200 block of South Marshall a few minutes before 6 a.m. when two people walked up, shouted gang slogans and opened fire, police said.

The teen, identified as Victor Martinon, was shot twice in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:24 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He lived in the 2300 block of South Trumbull. Police said the boy was 17.

About 2:45 a.m. Sunday, a man was shot to death in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Quentin Graham, 40, was sitting on a porch in the 800 block of West 50th Place when a light-colored vehicle pulled up, police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

As the man walked up to the vehicle, someone inside fired shots, striking him in the chest, police said.

Graham, of the 700 block of West 50th Place, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:29 a.m., the medical examiner's office said.

About five minutes before that incident, a man died in a shooting that injured three others at an Auburn Gresham lounge on the South Side.

The men were inside the lounge in the 8300 block of South Halsted about 2:40 a.m. Sunday when someone inside a passing vehicle fired shots into the club, police said.

James McCoy, 30, of Peoria was shot in the chest and taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, authorities said. His exact address was unknown Sunday night.

A 39-year-old was shot in the buttocks and also taken to Christ, where his condition had stabilized. A 32-year-old was shot in the chest and taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, police said. A 41-year-old was shot in the left ankle and taken to Little Company of Mary.

Earlier Sunday, three men were shot — one fatally — at a party in the West Side Austin neighborhood, authorities said.

The three were at a backyard party in the 5000 block of West Potomac about 2 a.m. when someone came out of an alley and fired multiple shots, police said.

Andre Byrd, 33, was shot in the torso and pronounced dead at the scene at 2:15 a.m., according to police and the medical examiner's office. Byrd lived in the 200 block of North Kolin, authorities said.

A 35-year-old man was shot in the elbow, torso and hip and was taken to West Suburban Hospital, where his condition had stabilized. A 36-year-old man was shot in the back and was in serious condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.

At least 36 other people have been shot across the city since 4:30 p.m. Friday. Additionally, two males were fatally shot by Chicago Police during separate incidents Sunday night in the Chatham and East Garfield Park neighborhoods.

2 men dead in separate Chicago police-involved shootings

POSTED 8:58 PM, AUGUST 24, 2014, BY RANDI BELISOMO AND MAX TARLTON, UPDATED AT 08:25AM, AUGUST 25, 2014

Two fatal shootings involving police overnight.

The first happened in East Garfield park.

Police responded to a report of a possible gunman near California and Polk.

A man led them on a foot chase, eventually up the stairs to a residence.

That’s when police say the suspect turned around and pointed a gun at an officer.

The officer then shot and killed the gunman on the stairs.

Police say they recovered a gun at the scene.

The second shooting happened at about 9 p.m. near 80th and Ingleside.

There was an exchange of gunfire between two men.

One gunman, and another man and woman were wounded.

When police arrived to investigate, they say they were confronted by a man who pointed a gun in their direction. Officers opened fire, killing the man.

The woman and man who were wounded are said to be in good condition.

The other man was shot in the head. There’s no word on his condition.
