Yoest: Stupak Deal ‘A Tragedy for America’

Pro-Life Leader Charmaine Yoest: Stupak Deal ‘A Tragedy for America’

    By Christian Newswire
    Sunday, March 21, 2010

The following is a statement from Charmaine Yoest, President & CEO of Americans United for Life Action:

“This deal to pass the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade is a tragedy for America. We believe that Mr. Stupak’s choice to succumb to the intense pressure of the last week has resulted in his endorsement of a charade that does not even begin to address the anti-life provisions in this legislation. The American people do not support taxpayer funding of abortion and Speaker Pelosi and the President have undermined representative democracy by working to pass this legislation with this unprecedented contortion of the legislative process.â€

I just heard on Fox Business News, from a Democrat, that Bart Stupak was either fooled or knowingly went along, with the Executive Order idea. The Democrat stated that the Executive Order deal was merely symbolic so that Stupak could go back to his district and say," See what I did." Comments were made by another Democrat earlier today, who spoke with Bart Stupak prior to his public statement in support of the Bill, telling Mr. Stupak that this order could be undone, or changed through legislation. This Democrat would continue to be a pro-life Democrat voting no. Stupak changed to yes.

If Bart Stupak knowingly sold out for coverage in his district, instead of standing for principle, that is another shame on Congress.

Mary Bono Mack (CA), said that she believes there is a much larger agenda working, and that working with Democrats may not be possible in the future, though she has tried. She mentioned that a Democrat told her that Nancy Pelosi would not allow them to work with her on some piece of legislation.

Bart Stupak is very smart. He and the others that thought like him were given "input" to the wording of the three page exective order. He said there will ne NO Changes in the present law.
